Easter Monday Propers

Introit
Psalm 118,15-17.22-24; Luke 24,6a,34a
Alleluia! He is not here, but has risen. Alleluia!
The Lord has risen indeed! Alleluia!
Glad songs of salvation
are in the tents of the righteous:
The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,
the right hand of the Lord exalts,
the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!
I shall not die,
but I shall live,
and recount the deeds of the Lord.
The Stone that the builders rejected
has become the Cornerstone.
This is the Lord’s doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be forever. Amen.
He is not here, but has risen.
The Lord has risen indeed!

Collect of the Day
O God, in the Paschal feast You restore all creation. Continue to send Your heavenly gifts upon Your people so that they may walk in perfect freedom and receive eternal life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

Isaiah 25,8-9
He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of His people He will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day: „Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him, that He might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for Him; let us be glad and rejoice in His salvation.“

Gradual (Psalm 118,24.2)
This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Let Israel say:
„His steadfast love endures forever.“

1. Corinthians 15,50-58
I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: „Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?“ [Isaiah 25,8; Hosea 13,14] The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Verse (Luke 24,32)
Alleluia. Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures? Alleluia.

Luke 24,13-35
That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. And He said to them: „What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?“ And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered Him: „Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?“ And He said to them: „What things?“ And they said to Him: „Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered Him up to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. But we had hoped that He was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, and when they did not find His body, they returned saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that He was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but Him they did not see.“ And He said to them: „O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the Prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into His glory?“ And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if He were going farther, but they urged Him strongly, saying: „Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.“ So He went in to stay with them. When He was at table with them, He took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him. And He vanished from their sight. They said to each other: „Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures?“ And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the Eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying: „The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!“
