Devotional thoughts for Tuesday

Tuesday 2. December 2014
Populous Zion; 1. Sunday in Advent

The people who walked in darkness have seen a Great Light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has Light shined. (Isaiah 9,2 ESV)

Advent begins with Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday which is the first day of Holy Week. That week culminated with Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection.

Advent prepares us for the celebration of Christ's birth on Christmas. Advent begins by reminding us that Jesus was born to be our Savior from sin, death and the devil.

Jesus, thus, is the Great Light who shines on all men and women who live under the darkness of sin and rebellion against the Triune God. Jesus reveals His Dear Father's love, mercy and forgiveness. Jesus personifies in His very body that Divine love, mercy and forgiveness. We now no longer live in the darkness of uncertainty, condemnation and God's wrath, but we live this day, and every day, in the light of God's grace, mercy and peace that we have solely in Christ, our King, Redeemer and God.

Prayer: Stir up Your power, O LORD, and draw near and help us by Your might, so that the sins which weigh us down may be quickly lifted by Your grace and mercy; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever.  Amen. (L04, Treasury of Daily Prayer
